"You're really digging the dark secrets that nobody knows me at this time," says Thomas Rhett Rolling Stone Country, calling from the road in the wake of the 48th annual CMA Awards nominations. Rhett, for New Artist of the Year, is a little afraid of what might happen if he wins. That is, people could get ready at his side eager to mourn, emotional - certainly far from his image Gun in hand, shown in the video "Small Town Throwdown" by Brantley Gilbert.

"I'll probably mourn," he says frankly grimly. "I cry at movies Nicholas Sparks, so if I win the prize'll probably be crying. All my artist friends tease me for being a human being so sensitive."
But with one year Rhett could be the other candidates - including Cole Swindell said friends and Kip Moore, along with Brett Eldredge and Brandy Clark - that could be sobbing tears if the singer "Make Me Wanna" takes the crown. Since launching in 2013 says so, the 24-year-old Rhett hit the road with Miranda Lambert and seen five singles reached the charts, including the celestial-Hefeweizened "beer with Jesus." Still, as much as he wants to take the trophy, which is also looking forward to a time when it is no longer the new kid on the block.
"I'm not saying exactly that, as a new artist who has to fit in most of what the headliners are doing," he says, "but there's a part of you that feels like you have to put songs they are successes. If a new artist wants to put some kind of off the wall, deep ballad crazy sun or whatever, it can be hard to get traction. it is much easier for someone set to turn a very sincere, deep track and get played on the radio ".
Rhett ready to take those risks, however. For their second album, the self-proclaimed sap finally have the opportunity to go further in that tender side, with "four or five songs that will make you mourn. Or if not cry, at least give you chills."
But then there's the rest of the record - due sometime next year -. "A little to the left of center, a little more towards the pop side of myself" to be Rhett is a big fan of Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake and Hayley Williams of Paramore, and even confesses that holds your copy of the newest LP Jason Derulo. "You will be able to dance to eight of the songs," says Rhett. "They will be very fun and very out of there production wise."
The diverse palate born of influences that are outside the boundaries of traditional country - the "Roar" zigzag grooves for gallo singer Mick Jagger.
"Growing up, both as a country was a big influence in my life, the Rolling Stones and the Beatles and Led Zeppelin were a close second such" says Rhett. "My first concert was the Rolling Stones in Denver. I got a camera backstage and Mick Jagger filmed during soundcheck. To burn a disc and stick to a specific style is not my thing."
So while Rhett could be a "Fool to Cry" and, well, a fool to mourn (at least during The Notebook), I do not think he necessarily will dissolve in water works if you miss the nom New Artist.
"Me and Cole are pretty tight," he says. "So while he's on his way there, I'll probably punch him in the stomach."
